Q: Why "external Filter" (e-Filter)? Why "Spongeless"?
Some Epson's cartridges or ink system have sponges that hold the ink and act as low grade mechanical filter, and a filter that leads to where the nippples dock with and flow ink to the spray nozzles.
This design is perfect for one-time-only cartridge, however, if you re-use such cartridge over and overe again, you may experience the clogged nozzles, missing color or horizontal banding.
There can be several different reasons for these problem, the dried sponage, vapor lock or air bubbles, and the blocked filter restricting ink flow badly.
This can happen to any refill cartridge and pigment CIS system.
In the year of 2003, InkRepublic developed i-INK to overcome sponge problem - i-INK is the first spongeless ink system. Instead of using sponge, i-INK system utilizes two chambers to hold the ink,
control flow rate and absorb small amount of air bubbles.
i-INK system is a perfect solution for dye ink, solvent ink, pigment ink and sublimation ink. However, occasionally we found that by putting the micron filter inside the damper (internal filter)
could block the ink flow if the filter gets clogged with particulates. This problem is very common to all the pigment bulk ink system.
In the year of 2006, InkRepublic R&D team developed the latest i-INK2 and e-Filter (External Micron Filter) which is replaceable and easy to install.
If the particulates block the e-Filter, you can replace it with a new e-Filter then keep printing. By swapping out the clogged micron filter, you can eliminate the possibility of ink starvation, bad ink flow rate and clogged nozzles.

Note:
1. e-Filter is applied to R800, R1800, R2400, R260, RX380, RX580, 1400, 3800 and newer models.
2. In each i-INK2, InkRepublic does include at least 2 spare e-Filters for replacement. If you need more spare e-Filters please include your name, shipping information, date of purchasing,
and the model of ink system you have and email to us. (CustomerCare@InkRepublic.com)
3. It only takes few seconds to replace e-Filter.
* e-Filter and i-INK / i-INK2 are protected by U.S. Federal and International Patent Law.
