InkRepublic.com - Review of Epson 1270 Ink System
James Gunning

Dear InkRepublic:
I'm very satisfied with the I-ink system. The chip holder was a minor
problem and I was able to solve it easily. I brought it to your attention
since it may have stopped others less well equipped from a successful
installation.
So far the system has worked flawlessly. I am using it with MIS Glossy
pigment ink and a custom profile for the ink and printer. I travel
frequently and as a result the printer sometimes sits unused for extended
periods of time. I have had perfect nozzle checks the first time, each time
I have started the printer. That is a huge improvement over the modified
Epson cartridges I was using. I have already experienced some ink saving due
to not having to do multiple cleaning cycles to get all nozzles firing.
Very interesting about the reset chips. I agree that is a superior way to do
the reset. The 1270 tends to do more cleaning cycles than any other Epson I
have owned. I agree that anything that keeps it from doing another one is a
good idea. Also, keeping the waste ink tank counter from advancing is very
clever.
I did have the red light ink-out light come on in the middle of a 13 X 19
color print. The printer just kept printing and I ignored the light since
the nozzles were still supplied by the CIS system. I did notice the system
seemed to reset to the level where the other tanks were. I asked about this
since my only previous experience with reset chips has been with MIS. Theirs
reset to 100% when the printer is turned off.
I don't feel your product is overpriced. It is a significant investment,
that in some cases may cost more than the printer to purchase. Some may feel
that is too "pricy". As long as the printer is used enough, it will pay for
itself. Only continued good performance will tell whether it is worth the
money.
Thanks for sharing some of the technical details with me. I am always
interested in finding out how things work so I can make the best choices in
purchasing and use.
